My Yoga Journey
I began my yoga journey in my late twenties, attempting to understand what "yoga" was all about. My first class at The Sivananda Yoga Centre in London, a place of pure peace and spiritual practice. It was a totally new experience, which made me feel completely held and safe.
In search of more experiences I attended many different styles of yoga classes for many years. Whether it was Iyengar, Ashtanga Vinyasa, Kundalini etc.. I always felt inspired and came away feeling calm, stretched and energised with a sense of space in my heart, with no real idea why, I just knew it worked.
It was not until I was in my forties that I found the full power of Yoga. Various experiences through my life had left me with depression and trauma that I needed to release. I returned to Sivananda Yoga after a gap of a few years. I found the powerful combination of Asanas (postures), Pranayama (breath work) and meditation carried me through a traumatic stage of my life and gave me a true sense of empowerment, freedom and joy.
I was inspired by its powerful effects...it was more than just another form of exercise. I trained to teach Yoga for mums and babies (having young children myself) and pregnancy Yoga with Birthlight. I pulled in my previous experiences as a fitness instructor and began teaching Yoga to friends and family. After moving to Wiltshire in 2012 I finally found the perfect Yoga teaching training course, Universal Yoga that combined all of my various Yoga experiences, which allowed me to find my own style of teaching always drawing in from a variety of different schools of thought as well as new developing ideas. I qualified in 2015.
I am qualified as a Yoga teacher for children, for special children with special needs and a Teen Yoga teacher. I am now training to be a Yoga Therapist to further enhance my teaching bringing in a more therapeutic approach for all aspects of my teaching whether within group classes or one to one.
I strive to bring Yoga to ALL - young and old, as I truly believe that Yoga has benefits for everyone. Through my teaching I hope to provide the opportunity for others to find whatever it is that they are looking for, be it improved health, fitness and stamina, ease and peace of mind, healing from old wounds (physical and emotional) or a richer spiritual life.
My passion is to provide through my home studio (ShalaYogaHaven) a safe, tranquil and peaceful environment to retreat from our hectic lifestyles and to feel held - a space that allows one to be at the centre of being, allows one to let go of inhibitions and enjoy the journey of life free from competition and the stresses of daily life. A place that welcomes you home
